Moving In
When you move in, you will complete a registration card and receive a room key. You will also receive a room inventory form. The residence hall staff will assist you in assessing the condition of your room. The room inventory form is used when you move out to determine if damage charges will be billed to you.

For move-in dates, visit the Housing Programs & Events page.

Moving Tips

  • Yousif B. Ghafari Hall and South Hall are located on Anthony Wayne Drive
  • Anthony Wayne Drive should be accessed from Warren Avenue.
  • A move-in/drop-off zone has been established on the east side of Anthony Wayne Drive next to the Yousif B. Ghafari and South Residence Halls.
  • Follow the directions given to you by the traffic control staff when you arrive.
  • A move-in team will be available to assist you. This will work similar to an airport drop-off area. We recommend you bring a dolly or cart to assist you in moving your belongings in. (Although there will be a limited number of dollies available, there may be a wait for their use.)
  • When you arrive in the drop-off zone, you should go immediately to the front desk check-in area in the lobby of your hall. At that time, you will sign for keys and other important materials.
  • The move-in team will direct you in moving your belongings to your room.
  • Next, you will be told where to park your vehicle.
  • Free parking in Wayne State University's Parking Structure #2 is available on check-in days only.

Moving Out
Residents who are moving out of their room are asked to make an appointment with an residence assistant (available anytime during the year) to complete the room inventory form. Your participation in the move-out inventory is strongly recommended. Students may choose to use the “Express Check-Out” option. Students utilizing this option will be responsible for all damages assessed to the room. “Express Check-Out”-assessed damages can not be contested.

For move-out dates, visit the Housing Programs & Events page.

Semester Breaks/Closing Procedure
Accommodations are available for occupancy in keeping with the WSU academic calendar. Ghafari and South Hall residents may not occupy rooms during university breaks of four days or longer. The residence hall is closed during the break between the fall and winter semesters although you may leave your belongings in your room. The residence hall is also closed during spring break.

All residents must move their belongings out at the end of the winter semester. Students requiring special accommodations during breaks should inquire at the Office of Housing and Residential Life. Special accommodation options are limited.
